Elaine Bannerman


Elaine has 20 years’ in-house experience in capital markets, funds, and commercial transactions gained from global investment banks, hedge funds as well as other financial institutions. She has acted as general counsel, managing external counsel, as well as collaborating with C-level executives on business strategy and development, cultivating an awareness for identifying and managing legal risks in all business areas, coupled with a passion for innovation and the initiation of new product offerings for business growth.

Elaine was Vice President Structured Credit Documentation at Bank of America; General Counsel at Nubuke Investments, and recently Director of Digital Associates - a FinTech and LegalTech firm in Mauritius,

Elaine has a keen interest in technology and has advised technology start-ups on their capital raising strategy. She also advised a remittance and payments company on its FinTech and digitisation strategy. Her blockchain and digital ledger technology expertise forms the basis of her keen interest in the development of smart contracts.

Elaine maintains a keen focus on socio-economic development in Africa, where she has been engaged in extensive public and private sector projects.

Elaine is a Barrister of England and Wales and member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

Elaine’s qualifications include an LLM from University College London, Executive Education Programmes at London Business School and more recently, the FinTech programme at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School.

Elaine joined Avery Law in 2020.
